The lower section of the desk is a single unit, 189” long. The left half has a 100” high shelving unit which mates to the desk surface via mortises. The right half has a linoleum writing panel inset flush. Through dovetails join the desk and shelving at the corners.

 The lower unit is made of quartersawn white oak to limit seasonal change in the fit of the linoleum panel. The panel is inset and attached with slotted screw channels underneath to allow for wood movement around it.
